Tanya Melendez is a Boricua born and raised in Highland Park, Los Angeles.
Ms. Melendez has a background in dance and fine art. She founded her jewelry line in 2005 called NenaSoulFly. Ms Melendez incorporates her cultural background, experience in art and dance to create one of a kind pieces. She uses a fusion of vibrant traditional textiles and bold prints from West Africa and Central and South America. Ms. Melendez enhances these fabrics with modern jewelry pieces such as the iconic Bamboo Doorknocker Hoop Earrings creating signature NenaSoulFly adornments.
Ms. Melendez's passion and love for jewelry is evident through her eye-catching designs. Every NenaSoulFly piece is handmade and created with the intention to inspire and elevate its canvas. Her new pieces reflect different cultures from around the world inspiring her to fuse the traditional with modern day style, creating a unique style of her own.
Ms. Melendez's unique style was recently featured in a collaborated photo exhibition titled "ADORNMENT" in Los Angeles, CA, which was open to the public and exhibited from March 18th- April 1st.
Ms. Melendez's previous work consists of customized one of a kind jewelry pieces for celebrities within the United States and South America such as Erykah Badu, Snoop Dogg, Ana Tijoux, Susana Baca, Kali Uchis, and Les Nubians to name a few.
Ms. Melendez other projects consits of styling for KENZO, music videos, and award ceremony nominees for Grammys, Country Music Awards, and the Oscars. She is also featured in several editorial and online magazines as well as New York and Africa Fashion Week Blogs.
